PHOTOGRAPHY TIPS FOR THE BLOGGER

6 May 2015

When it comes to writing a blog, I think imagery is so important. You don't need a flashy camera to achieve great photos, it's simply about the concept. Personally, I look for images that are in focus, bright and show the subject well.

Lighting; Now, I studied photography at A Level and before, but studio lighting is something I never liked! However, when it comes to taking images in the evening, that can be quite difficult as the lighting can then become dark and the lights in your home give off a yellow tint! We've all been there don't worry, but it doesn't look great. To avoid that, simply take pictures at the weekend during the day by a window or, if you are experience with lighting such as soft boxes etc then go ahead! But I always take my images at the weekend as it saves me so much time.

Composition; Don't be afraid to play around with the layout of your subject, I have noticed taking shots above the subject discards some shadows as well as making it all in focus so this composition is great if that's what you are looking for. Take a variety of shots from different angles of the subject and see what you prefer later on.

Editing; There are so many free editing websites out there which you can use to adjust the basics of your image like brightness, contrast, saturation etc. I have always been lucky enough to have Photoshop as that is the only software I find easy to use! Believe it or not, I can't even use paint! When I've taken my images I open them up in Photoshop, and I may crop them depending on if I wanted a closer enough shot, and then I only brighten up the image by adjusting the brightness and that's it! Nothing difficult!

Backgrounds and Props; This is my favourite and I believe this is has a huge part to play in your photography. It can change up the simply subject dramatically. My favourite is using a white table, which I hand painted myself, but you can pick up the Lack table from Ikea for £5! Which is a must have as it is the perfect white background for your shots. Another background is wood samples, you can pick these up and they create a great rustic look! Another favourite of mine is wallpaper samples! A pretty way to add something to your subject. As for props... flowers, trays, rugs, scraps of fabric, magazines, cushions... the list is endless just have fun and experiment!

I hope you enjoy reading this, and I also hope it helps and gives you some inspiration and ideas!

Much love;

HOW TO - STAY ORGANISED - FREE PLANNER PRINTABLE

17 March 2015

Evening guys and gals!
I thought I would dedicate a post to staying organised.  This is something I am quite good at. I have to constantly be organised, as I feel like I don't have control otherwise. So first things first, here are some brief tips on how to gain that organisation!

  • Get yourself a notebook! This is where you can quickly jot down any quick ideas!
  • Purchase a good, cute diary/planner - this is where you can have a clear conscious of whats going on with your blog.
  • Having Pinterest - this is a strange one, but it is useful! I use this all the time, for inspiration and to organise any freebies I find or useful tips for my blog.
  • Make sure you have a pencil case, I like having colourful pens - it just makes me more inclined to be organised in a creative way.
  • And finally, have a clear workspace, which allows you to do your blogging in a way that inspires you constantly.

 I hope those quick tips helped you. I was feeling creative and decided I wanted to create a Weekly Post Planner!
I felt generous, so I thought I was share this with you for a free download! Please feel free to share, just do not use this for commercial use or claim as your own.

Enjoy!

HAIR TUTORIAL - BRAID

15 March 2015

Good evening;
I thought I would share with you guys and gals how I styled my hair today. For those of you who don't know, I change my hair ALL the time. It has been every shade, and I was recently  bright red! However I did think in the end it was washing me out big time! So I stripped my hair, went ginger, put an ash brown on it, then I spent an hour having highlights at about 12% under a dryer. Hah! However I'm so grateful as my sister did a beautiful job as always! Top hairdresser.

So back to this look, it really is quite simple. I believe it looks a lot better with curly, wavy hair as there is more texture to the hair.

  1. Grab a section of hair from the right side of your head, and start french braiding it, grabbing small sections as you go long, secure the end with a hair band and pull at the braids sections making it look messier.
  2. Repeat this step on the other side of your head.
  3. Once you have your two sections, grab the first braid and place it to the back of your head, and pin it with bobby pins.
  4. Repeat with the other braid, however with the ends tuck them underneath each braid, hiding the hair bands.
  5. And you're done! Total time 5 minutes top!

Do you like this look?
